Country Estate - Cheshire

CPSL - 30th March 2016

CPSL revolutionary energy storage technology capabilities have enabled this country estate to take control of its energy and become virtually self-sufficient.

This country estate is owned and run by one of the UK’s leading entrepreneurs who fully understands the importance of reducing energy costs. With a constant attention to detail and cost control, he demonstrates the essential requirement of all businesses to be green and yet cost effective. CPSL Group were engaged to deliver the solutions that the estate were looking for.

Following a comprehensive CPSL Group energy evaluation audit a full renewable energy proposal was formulated. This resulted in the installation of 20 kW of solar PV, 25 kW of wind turbine, and a pellet fed biomass boiler. The estate also took the ultimate holistic step to becoming virtually self-sufficient by installing CPSL Group battery storage for the excess power that is produced from the renewable generation.

To satisfy the energy requirements of a riding and livery stables, car repair workshop and the day to day activities of a working farm the estate were determined to enhance the value of the Feed in Tariffs and the Renewable Heating Incentive payments. As all the energy was being produced on site CPSL recommended avoiding any possible intermittent nature of renewable energy by installing a

CPSL revolutionary energy storage system. We provided 72 kW of storage and an energy management system that stored all of the power on site rather than sending it to the Grid and then the estate having to buy it back when needed for considerably more than was achieved by selling it in the first place.

The CPSL solution means that the electricity produced from the wind turbine and solar panels is used to provide power to the site and if insufficient is being produced, then the extra electricity is drawn from the battery storage facility.   If more power is being produced than is required to meet site demand, then the excess electricity is used to recharge the battery storage. Because the site is a commercial operation, the RHI payments for the biomass boiler will continue for 20 years with a payback of less than 4 years. This will provide an ongoing income stream along with free heat for the estate.

Free and available assets are seen as the way to use modern technology. The ability to store the power that is produce for use when needed rather than only when it is produced transforms the financial viability and efficiency of the installation.
